MEA research results repeatedly attract considerable media attention in Germany and beyond. Therefore, support by a PR department is of importance. Andrea Oepen took over this task until July 2020 within her lead of the European Relations Unit, together with her PR team Philipp Beck and Veronika Máté. Since August 2020, Verena Coscia is in charge of press and public relations of the institute’s Social Policy Department. Julia Knoblechner and Veronika Máté work together with her in the Public Relations Unit. The team supports the MEA researchers in generating publicity for scientific research results by publishing and distributing MEA Discussion Papers via the website, relevant repositories and a regular newsletter. In addition, the PR team coordinates press inquiries for the various research areas and supports the researchers in answering them. By the end of 2019, the redesign of the joint MPISOC website could also be implemented with the support of the MEA Public Relations Unit. In order to make the institute and its research accessible to a broader public, the PR team actively supported the design of a cross-institute stand at the Max Planck Day and the Munich Science Days in 2019.
